The Bio One chair was born out of a conceptual research project during Zagorac's doctoral studies. The aim was to bring a fresh perspective to small creative environments, transforming an essential part of the workplace into an object designed to encourage creativity and instigate inspiration. The chair's organic outlines grow into a characteristic uplifting form, reminiscent of the flower of the Calla aethiopica, on the edge of the backrest. This edge bends slightly backward and rises asymmetrically, bringing dynamics to the silhouette without compromising functionality and ergonomics.
Constructed from molded thermoplastics and tapered and bent steel tubing, the Bio One chair is a perfect blend of form and function. With a width and depth of up to 680mm and a height of 849mm, the chair is designed to fit seamlessly into small productive spaces. Its simplistic asymmetry and inspiring natural form complement the modern interiors of studios and home offices.
The design process was a careful study of samples from flora and fauna, simplified and stylized through various stages of drawing and 3D computer modeling. The result is a universally understandable bio-form, devoid of unnecessary visual details, with harmonious organic outlines further emphasized in contrast with different material finishes chosen for the seat and legs.
One of the main challenges in the design process was to create a safe and familiar object that would inspire new ideas and boost the user's creativity. The asymmetrical silhouette and minimal deformations that accentuate the silhouette aim to associate with growth, a universally understandable natural pattern, and instill confidence in the user.
The Bio One office chair is more than just a piece of furniture. It's a testament to the power of design in transforming everyday objects into sources of inspiration and creativity. Its calming organic outlines create a safe and familiar workspace, while its association with gradual growth and a firm general construct aim to instill confidence in first-time users. The asymmetrical silhouette accentuates fine details in the minimalistic form and expresses the dynamics of the modern workplace, inspiring new ideas and boosting creativity.
With its unique design and innovative approach, the Bio One chair is a deserving winner of the Golden A' Design Award. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
